Built as a Las Vegas desert oasis, this layout opened as the flagship amenity for the 22,500-acre Summerlin master-planned community.
One of the most visually stunning golf courses in Nevada, TPC Summerlin has successfully hosted a PGA TOUR event for over 20 years, most recently the PGA TOUR’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
TPC Summerlin was also the first golf course in the Silver State to be certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System.

Challenge
TPC Summerlin was developed in 1991 by then PGA TOUR in-house golf course architect, Bobby Weed, and player consultant, Fuzzy Zoeller.
The Mojave Desert heat, lack of water and soil created significant construction and operational challenges. Blasting caliche, crushing boulders and creating two chocker levels of bi-product was an arduous and expensive process.
Of visual significance, the Howard Hughes master-planned community aimed to incorporate stunning vistas of Red Rock Canyon and downtown Las Vegas.
Approach
Weed’s design team took significant steps during construction to preserve natural wildlife habitats, native desert grasses and reduce water usage. From this, TPC Summerlin became Nevada’s first golf course to be certified by Audubon International.
In 2018, all bunkers underwent strategic realignment, improved contouring, drainage and installed new sand. This work was completed in conjunction with PGA TOUR Design Services.
Solution
With an average course elevation of 2,700 feet above sea level, TPC Summerlin is a shot-maker’s dream. The par-72, 7,243-yard design seamlessly incorporates the rocky desert, with revenge pines, native creosote bushes and cacti in abundance.
Over 30 years later, TPC Summerlin remains a great test for the world’s best players, as well as members and guests of varying abilities.
