Overview
The flagship amenity of a master-planned new home community by DR Horton. Fleming Island Golf Club’s distinct look of native wetlands, dense timbers and challenging waste areas helped drive more first-year sales than any other Jacksonville, Fla. development.

Approach
Fleming Island’s par-71 tips out at 6,700 yards. Challenging approach angles and contours create a visually appealing, yet unpredictable round.
The 6,410-yard blue tees and 5,888-yard white tees are more forgiving.
Fleming Island’s links-style front nine features creative undulations, water and carefully-placed sand bunkers. The parkland-style back nine was carved out of a former timber forest, where players are treated to an atmosphere of solitude. Roughs are centipedegrass, which creates contrast between the fairways and out-of-play areas.
Solution
Hitting greens in regulation is the secret to scoring well. Most greens are slightly elevated or at ground level, with edges that drop off into bunkers, wetlands, side-hill lies and collection areas.
Starting at Hole 14, the 3-5-3-5 finish provides great variety, creativity and scoring opportunities. An abundance of hazards including marshes, bunkers and lakes must be strategically avoided.
With an intriguing mix of holes and reasonable pricing structure, Bobby Weed’s design at Fleming Island was proudly awarded “Best New Affordable Public Golf Course in America” by Golf Digest.
