Approach
Routing: Weed implemented several routing changes to lengthen the Lagoon Course. While still not very long at 6,022 yards, strong ocean breezes, an abundance of water (lagoons) tight fairways and risk vs. reward opportunities help protect par.
Landscaping: To strength the Lagoon Course’s seaside character, BWGD greatly enhanced its landscaping. Players now enjoy a vivid contrast of lush fairways, palm trees and coquina shell screenings.
Cost Savings: Notable cost savings were achieved with the introduction of more native grasses and plants. These require less water, chemical application and labor to maintain.
Conditioning: Tee boxes, fairways and greens were remodeled and rebuilt.
Greens: The putting surfaces now vary in size from small to expansive. Bunkers and grassy swales protect many greens. However, Weed ensured that high-handicap players could still access pins using the ground game.
Solution
Weed’s Lagoon Course renovation places a premium on accurate drives, strategic approach shots and fun green contours. With a new identity all its own, this seaside layout is the perfect sister course for members and resort guests.
